In South Africa, we are privileged to have access to great white sharks … if you know
where to go, and when.
White Shark Projects is without doubt the most successful white
shark diving organisation in the world: Working in the unique marine
area off the southern Cape coast, our skippers log more contact with
great white sharks than anyone else worldwide.
Our boat and crew
Shark Team is an 11-metre, 4-ton catamaran
with all the latest electronic and safety
equipment. The boat was custom-built for shark
diving, so there is plenty of space for everyone
to view the sharks in comfort. While she can
take 30 passengers, we have limited our
licence to a maximum of 20 passengers plus
crew to ensure client comfort.
The White Shark Projects diving and viewing centre offers day trips, overnight packages, team-building activities, incentives, VIP trips and group bookings.
Your day with White Shark Projects
Please note: Due to tides and collection schedules, we can only confirm exact collection times at 16h00 on the day prior to your tour. |
| Pickup and scenic transfer |
We collect you from Cape Town or Hermanus and drive you to our home base in Kleinbaai. Alternatively we can arrange a car hire for you, or transfer by helicopter or micro light. Or for an extended experience of the area, ask about our accommodation options. |
| Breakfast at our meeting place |
Our continental breakfast consists of yoghurt, cereals, toast, muffins and cold meats, tea and coffee |
| Your day at sea and a lecture on board |
The skipper of the day gives a short lecture on the Great White Shark. He explains how we work with the sharks in the area. We spend 2 to 4 hours at sea, depending on how often the sharks visit the boat. Be sure to ask as many questions as you can think up! |
| Diving and viewing |
Our cage takes 5 people at a time. Each person spends about 20 minutes in the cage. All scuba equipment, including 7mm wetsuits, is provided – you don’t need a scuba license to cage dive. |
| Picnic lunch on board |
Our lunch boxes are packed with bread rolls (with a variety of fillings), sweets, crisps and assorted juices and soft drinks. |
| Afternoon tea |
On your return to dry land, you're invited to join us for tea and scones at our Lodge. |
| A DVD of your trip |
We have a professional videographer on all our trips |

The best season for viewing
Dyer Island is a good place to see sharks all year round. So, weather permitting, our tours run every single day. But the prime viewing time is in our winter months when the sharks have a particularly active feeding pattern. The following guide is based on our observations over the past 8 years. Allow for an overlap between seasons.
Peak season: April to October (99% success rate) HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
High season: November to December (90 – 99% success rate)
Intermediate season: January to March (80 – 90% success rate)
Water temperatures vary between 16 and 20 degrees Celsius during our peak and high season and between 10 and 16 degrees Celsius during our intermediate season.
Exceptional professional and personalised service coupled with extensive industry knowledge make White Shark Projects the ideal choice for an once-in-a-lifetime experience that will captivate your imagination and make you return for more.
